Empowering Teachers on Grief and Loss
Providing teachers with comprehensive knowledge about the grief process, children’s developmental responses, and the psychological effects of loss.
Funded by the European Union
EMPACT’s mission is to empower teachers with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to support grieving students. By integrating grief-sensitive education into school systems across Europe, we aim to create inclusive, empathetic, and emotionally supportive learning environments where no child experiences grief alone.
We achieve this through four key outputs: a comprehensive Training Guide, an interactive Online Learning Platform offering a Grief Awareness Certificate, a library of expert videos, and a free Mobile Application. All content is evidence-based, culturally adapted, and available in 6 languages.
We envision a future in which every teacher in European schools can recognize the signs of grief, respond with empathy, and guide students appropriately during their most difficult moments. We aim for education systems in which grief-sensitive education is not an added element introduced later, but a core part of teacher training. At the same time, we foresee a future where policy gaps related to grief support in education are addressed at both national and European Union levels.
EMPACT is the first Erasmus+ project specifically focused on grief-sensitive education for school teachers. Our goal is to create a strong foundation on which lasting and systemic change can be built.
